The covers are often based off of or inspired by works of early 20th century surrealism, sometimes more blatantly than others. In this case, it’s an homage to Olga Costa’s Muchacha Del Collar. What would this be, Teen With Fingers As Pendants?

Cat!Amparo and your explanation of the covers reminded me of Simpatía by Remedios Varo. The cat in that painting is supposedly infecting the woman with madness.

      OH MAN!
      1) I love Remedios Varo.
      2) I didn’t know that about Simpatía and am really thrilled because I’d planned to do a cover referencing it in the future.

What paintings are the other covers based on?

Issue 1: a touch of Kahlo’s “Autorretrato con collar de espinas,” but a lot of “Mancacoyota” by Alfredo Ramos Martinez
Issue 2 & 5: making my own glyphs for the Bright Worldians
Issue 6: Straight up Las Dos Fridas
Issue 7: Not really based off of, but definitely little slivers of Olga Costa’s “La Vendedora de Frutas”
